What to visit in Bordeaux for a long weekend?

Bordeaux is a surprising city. Known for its famous castles, vineyards, parks and gardens and above all the famous wine museum, it is always trendy for its style that combines ancient and modern architecture. It will take you more than a weekend to visit Bordeaux.

The Pey-Berland Tower
On your first day, you are invited to climb the 225 stone stairs to the bell tower of Saint-André Cathedral. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with a magnificent overview of the city dominated by its ochre roofs and sumptuous buildings.

The City of Wine
Bordeaux is called the city of wine. So, wine lover or not, if you are passing through the city, make a detour to the Cité du Vin. It is a unique place in the world for wine culture. It is located on the banks of the Garonne and covers a perimeter of 13,500 m2.

From a distance, you will see a large building with a surprising architecture made of glass and metal. With its curved shape and a torus representing the shape of a "wine decanter", it gives a sensation of movement and continuous flow between the inside and the outside. Consisting of eight floors, the representative building of the Cité du Vin offers several visiting areas that represent all the art of wine, combining culture, civilization and heritage.

A 35-metre-high lookout has several rooms for wine tasting. Apart from its structure, one of the reasons that makes Cité du Vin so fascinating is the surprising view it offers. From above, you can see the river on one side and the vine cultivation that is found there near the other. You can even visit this vineyard.

The water mirror
This water mirror on the Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is fascinating. Formed from a granite slab with a surface area of 5,500 m2, it is covered by a piece of water only 2 centimetres deep. The water jet mechanism makes this place exceptional, it works according to a cycle: the filling, then 3 minutes of water jet which appears as a fog that can reach 2 meters in height. Even at night, you can admire the square of the purse with the water mirror that reflects the lights as well as the purse building.

The place of the Quinconces
A detour between two strolls at this place allows you to see the famous Monument aux Girondins up close. Its fountain is also impressive.

Sainte-Catherine Street
Whether you like it or not, this pedestrian street, the longest in Europe with more than a kilometre, will be a must. There is something for fans of crowd bathing. Go up and down this shopping street, and above all, don't forget to buy some souvenirs of your stay in Bordeaux!
